Quality ingredients

I sit here covering tennis- 12 matches today and 108 tomorrow on 22 courts!!! So there is no hope for me if I don't understand the game by 6pm saturday. I find this empty bag of peanut M&M's and start to read.... here is what I see:
I was expecting something along the lines of fillet Mignon, lobster tail and sushi grade fish if a label claims to contain the :finest: ingredients.... Mars corporation is disillusional!! All this claims and all your getting is artifical color flavoring and a whole lot of crap-o-la! But caution- may contain almonds, something that most people DON"T have an allergy too unlike peanuts!

On another note- I had a brilliant idea the other day and I"m pondering my options with it. I hope to inform you all in the next few weeks!! The paleo world is missing one thing I think!! It will help us evolve (no pun intended) into something GRAND!!!

Keep it real!

what do ya know... Dr. OZ said something worth listening too

While driving home from my morning commute from my part-part (fun) time job at 7am and listening to Preston and Steve, Dr. Oz was a guest. Usually I turn the channel or station but something spiked my interest. ARSENIC!

Apparently in the news channels are up-in-arms about arsenic being found in apple juice! I was shocked to hear that it's even in water! Anyway, as I was beginning to educate myself about the paleo lifestyle it was natural that I learned a little about evolution as well. The strongest survive.... and in order to keep the "blood lines" going something needs to protect the vital "seed" in order to reproduce. Just so happens (can't quote the book because i'm actually not sure which one it was in but here is the few that I read- new evolution diet, primal blueprint, paleo diet, paleo solution, why we get fat, good calorie bad calorie) that APPLES, our red delicious, fuji, gala and pink ladies have ARSENIC in their seeds!!! I know someone who consumes the whole apple leaving nothing to spare- including the seeds. Since becoming aware of this I phoned them and said _STOP EATING THE WHOLE DARN APPLE!!_
This is natures self defense mechanism. Creatures in nature eat the seeds and die. The trend catches on and the creatures don't eat the seeds anymore- and lo-and behold we still APPLES!
Moral of the story- enjoy the fruit- but leave the seed for reproduction!

Second point that Dr OZ made today was about sleep. Nappytime is good! the good ol'cat nap is proven to boost brain recovery. 20-30min max, any longer can lead to grogginess.

Thanks all... thanks!!

Tri tip steak- disaster!

...but ended well!!

Thought I would be creative tonight and opt against a flank steak and spruce it up with a tri tip. Supposed to be very yummy! Long story short and 50 min later- I realized the propane ran out! Frig-

Sided with sweet pot fries and yellow squash!
Tri tip steak marinated with franks red hot, 21 seasoning and onion powder!

sweet potato fries in coconut oil, cinnamon, cayanne and honey

the finished product!

Why did I select the name "real life paleo"

Primarily, we live in a society that is not PALEO friendly. Applebees, Acme, food source, whole foods, qdoba, wendy's, (even) starbucks, 7-11, etc. The list can go on forever. For the few (thousands actually) people have to strive to de-conform to the SAD. I'm not trying to go primitive, or am I, but the extend of my "paleoism" is being done in  real life. Yes I eat grass fed, free range, cage free, no hormones added, non-sorbate prunes, almond butter, and bacon- tons of bacon, but I do it with real life in mind. If I go out to eat (which is becoming less and less) I'll say "hold the potato, but double the veggies". I was actually away last weekend and went to IHOP (gag... but it was for a good cause). Ordered up the 3 egged over-hard with hash, toast and 2 pieces of bacon. I kindly asked the waitress (side note- we were in canada) for " 3 eggs, hold the toast and hash but substitute with extra bacon and add peameal (canadian bacon). IT WAS DELICIOUS !!. Mean while I watched others gorge themselves on stuffed french toast with cream cheese and down chocolate milk one after another!!! The others were actually in disgust with my meal due to all "the fatty meat!" LOL I just looked at my husband and chuckled! anyway!!

So, real life paleo to me means that your aware of the MONSTROUS amount of benefits that paleo has to offer, but know enough that life happens and it's all not peach's and cream (coconut milk cream). I hope to provide and enlighten you to living in real time while still maintaining my paleo lifestyle!

what do you think? Any questions for me??

new week

A new week and a new start because I have been soooo naughty the past 2 weeks. I had a wedding and a anniversary party... I'm feeling terrible! not sure if it's the lack of sleep or the sugar running thru my veins!

On the menu tonight- grilled chicken with an african smoke seasoning with broccoli! I'll be sure to take a pic!

chicken pinapple kabobs

I love chicken and pinapple! Here is a  great recipe!
-red pepper
-pineapple
-chicken breasts

Season chicken with the spices you LOVE!!
Dont forget to soakd the skewers!
Add the chicken, pineapple and red pepper to the skewer in any order

Cook on a hot grill till chicken is cooked throroughly

Strawberry short cake

A creation with almond flour and eggs to get a yummy light cake combine with heavy whipping cream and fresh fruit! I love the coconut/almond flour cook book!

Real life coconut flour pancakes

‎Here is my own recipe. I looked at recipes from the primal cookbook and other such sites- but I think this suites me best!!
Yields 4 thick pancakes!
4 eggs
1/2 tablespoon baking powder
splash of vanilla,
a little coconut sugar
about 3-4 tablespoons of coconut flour to a consistency that you like.

In the food processor grind pecans, mix and cook! Coconut flour is definitely better for pancakes. Almond flour for cooking.
Coconut flour forms well with baking products and gives cakey like texture! Serve with fruit and some honey!

Welcome!

Hello and welcome to Real life Paleo. I plan to use this site instead of my facebook due to the NUMEROUS posts I usually submit daily!! Just trying to give my friends a break!

As I write this, The View is on and there is a very controversial topic about hotdogs. HELLOOO people! Just because Indiana posted a bill board stating that one serving of fried, or food that adds nitrates a day increases your chance of getting colorectal cancer by 20% doesn’t mean that its new NEWS. The public is in the dark about so many issues regarding health and I hope that I get to shed some light on these issues to help enrich the lives of others!

So what is paleo....
well it’s exceptionally simple! Following a Paleo diet involves no measuring or calorie counting (if you aren’t interested in quick weight loss anyway). All you need to do is remember this mantra:

Meats and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, a little starch and NO SUGAR!

You can get a little more complicated than that by also avoiding legumes and nightshade type foods or consuming everything (including meat) raw, but in a nutshell (pun intended) the simple sentence above is all you need to keep in mind when eating.
The basic theory is that food should only be eaten as they were by our ancestors – as food should be eaten, given how our bodies and organs operate. So some of the things that should not be eaten include dairy products, sugar or sugar substitues and wheat based products or high glycemic veggies such as corn. Animal fat is fine (and actually encouraged) (fitblog.com)
PS- First time blogger so please be kind if they seem sub-par! I hope to enrich my blog content daily!!
